Why You'll Love Air Fryer Turkey Burgers

Making turkey burgers has never been easier than when they're cooked up in the air fryer, and these juicy air fryer turkey burgers are not only quick but delicious, too.

Making turkey patties in the air fryer means you can make burgers all year long without needing a grill or heating up the house.

Plus, homemade turkey burgers are lighter than beef burgers, with plenty of lean protein for a healthy weeknight dinner. I always keep some turkey on hand to throw these together on busy nights.

Cleanup is also a breeze with the air fryer, especially if you line the basket with parchment paper before cooking.

The labeled ingredients for air fryer turkey burgers sit on a white marble counter.
    • Ground Turkey I have tested this recipe with both 93/7 and 90/10 blends, and both will work well.
    • Onion A yellow, sweet, red, or white onion will work well here.
    • Worcestershire Sauce This is key to the browning on the exterior of the burger and its moist texture.
    • Kosher Salt If using table salt or sea salt, use about half of the amount in the recipe. Kosher salt is only about half as salty as these options per teaspoon.
    • Black Pepper Fresh black pepper is a great addition to the burger but is optional.
    • Hamburger Buns

    Variations & Substitutions

    • Add a tablespoon of ketchup to your turkey burger meat for added sweetness.
    • In a rush? You can use store-bought turkey burgers for this recipe.
    • You can also make frozen turkey burgers. You don't need to thaw frozen burgers, just cook them at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
    • Swap out the ground turkey for ground beef to make beef burgers instead. Or you can make air fryer chicken burgers!

    How to Store

Fridge You can refrigerate leftover turkey burgers in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days. Be sure to store the buns and burgers separately.

Freezer You can freeze cooked turkey burgers. However, I recommend freezing turkey burger patties raw instead. The patties may get overcooked while thawing and reheating.

Reheat the patties from the fridge in the microwave or in a pan with a bit of oil.

    FAQ

Do you have to flip turkey burgers?

Yep. To cook the turkey burgers evenly, it's important that both sides of the burger receive equal cooking time.

Do you have to add breadcrumbs to turkey burgers?

No. I find that adding breadcrumbs to burgers can dry them out a bit. Instead, this burger has additional moisture in the form of Worcestershire sauce to create juicy turkey burgers that won't turn out crumbly or fall apart.

Can you cook frozen turkey patties in an air fryer?

You can. Place the frozen turkey burgers in the air fryer basket and cook at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Be sure to use a meat thermometer to ensure the burgers are done - that is, that they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.

How to Serve An Air Fryer Turkey Burger

I love a turkey burger on a toasted bun with a simple side salad with jalapeno honey lime vinaigrette, a lemon herb vinaigrette, or creamy salsa dressing. You can also serve them on lettuce wraps!

Or try them with a side of this delicious Greek green salad.

Be sure to try fantastic turkey burger toppings, like these caramelized onions and mushrooms add a deep savory note to the burgers.

Spicy pickled onions add an acidic punch, and pickled shallots have a more mellow pickled flavor. These marinated tomatoes add a lovely kick of acid that's tempered by rich olive oil.

And this pineapple habanero sauce is a reader favorite. It's fruity, hot, and great with a variety of proteins.

Be sure to make a side with these burgers, too, like air fryer fingerling potatoes coated in a garlic, lemon, and herb vinaigrette. Crispy air fryer smashed potatoes are another great potato option.

This air fryer broccoli and cauliflower is also super simple and really delicious. The florets get browned and crispy at the edges while they're cooked.

And air fryer zucchini and squash is an easy summer favorite, and be sure to try these air fryer carrot chips, too!

    Expert Tips

    • Different sizes, brands, and models of air fryers cook slightly differently. Be sure to keep this in mind as you may need to adjust your cook time. Your patties may cook a bit faster than the suggested time or take an extra minute or two.
    • When making air fryer turkey burgers, work in 2 batches if needed, only cooking as many patties at a time as will fit in the air fryer basket without crowding.
    • To taste for seasoning, cook a tiny bit of the uncooked turkey in the skillet. Taste this piece for seasoning and add more salt if needed before cooking all of the burgers.
