Why You'll Love This Dish

This dish is super easy. Add sliced strawberries to a preheated air fryer, flip halfway through, and take them out when they're done. That's it.

I’ve also included directions for the oven and dehydrator!

They are a healthy alternative to traditional desserts like cakes or cookies. You can add another serving of fruits and vegetables to your day while you enjoy a sweet treat!

This recipe is low effort. Outside of slicing the strawberries, all you really need to do is flip them.

It uses literally only one ingredient to create an incredibly delicious result. The sweetness of the berry is amplified as they are dehydrated, leaving a thin, crispy, concentrated strawberry flavor.

Finally, air-fried strawberries are a healthy snack or dessert. With lots of vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, you'll feel good about these strawberry slices!

    • Strawberries Try to select fresh strawberries with bright red coloring, healthy green leaves, and a shiny exterior. Avoid strawberries that have a lot of white on them, as these parts will not be as sweet, and avoid overly mushy or overripe berries.

How to Dehydrate Strawberries in Air Fryer

Step One: Wash and dry strawberries. Slice the strawberries into even slices between  ¼- to ⅛-inch thick and dispose of the green leaves and stem.

Sliced strawberries sit on a white cutting board.

Step Two Preheat air fryer to 180 degrees F. If your air fryer only goes down to 200 degrees, preheat to 200.

Step Three Remove the basket from the air fryer. Add a piece of parchment paper cut to fit the base.

Parchment paper is shown in the base of an air fryer basket.

Step Four Add the strawberry slices in an even single layer and air fry for 1 hour (45 minutes if your air fryer is at 200 degrees). Flip halfway through.

Step Five When the strawberries are fully dried, remove from the air fryer basket and serve or store for later use.

Oven Directions

Step One Preheat your oven to its lowest temperature.

Step Two Slice the strawberries into  ¼- to ⅛-inch thick slices and place them in an even layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step Three Place the baking sheet in the oven and cook until the strawberries are fully dried, flipping occasionally, about 2 hours.

Dehydrator Directions

Step One Place  ¼-inch thick sliced strawberries on the trays of your dehydrator in an even layer without the berries touching. Close the dehydrator doors.

Step Two Dehydrate the strawberries at 135 degrees Fahrenheit for about 8 hours, or until fully dried.

FAQ

Is air frying fruit healthy?

Yes. Fruits and vegetables cooked in the air fryer typically retain more of their nutrients than other cooking methods.

Read more about the health benefits of air frying in this article from Healthline.

What does air frying do to your fruit?

In this recipe, air frying allows you to dehydrate the fruit. With other preparations, you can develop a baked texture, with a soft interior and lightly crisp exterior.

What fruits can you air fry?

You can air fry strawberries, but there are lots of other fruits that will do well in the air fryer. Try apples, pineapple, pears, or blueberries.

Expert Tips

    • Air fryers can vary in size and temperature, so be sure to check your strawberries early.

    • Some air fryers will only go to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. In this case, try only cooking them for 45 minutes first, flipping around the 22-minute mark.

    • Work in batches. You won't want to crowd the air fryer, so work in batches to ensure the strawberries are in an even, single layer.

How to Store

Fridge You can store air fryer strawberries in an airtight container in the fridge for 2 to 3 days.

Freezer You can freeze air fryer dehydrated strawberries!

To freeze, make sure the fruit is completely dry and cooled. Place in individual serving sizes in a plastic bag and remove as much air as possible. Seal the bag and place in the freezer for later use.

How to Serve

These strawberries are fantastic as a snack, or...

    • on yogurt

    • in granola

    • chopped and mixed into baked goods, like brownies or cookies

    • in trail mix

    • on ice cream

    • on cottage cheese

This was such a genius way to use up extra strawberries from picking! Kiddos are now obsessed and we put them on top of smoothies, in yogurt, you name it.

I used to buy dehydrated strawberries until I saw your post. I made a small batch first to see if they would work and boy, did it ever!!! They strawberries were so delicious and still tasted like strawberries, unlike the store bought ones. They were great topping on my waffles.
